Green Smoothie is a tasty health drink made with fresh green leafy vegetables and fruits. It’s one of the simplest ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. This takes hardly 10 minutes to make but is quite filling to have as a mid-meal snack or before your workout. If you regularly take this smoothie, it will improve your immune system and overall health. If you are trying to lose your weight, you can have a cup of this smoothie for your breakfast. The fiber and nutrients will keep you full with very little calories. It’s a great detox food too.
This instant health shake can be made in a hundred different ways by changing the ingredients. It’s made with a combination of 3 ingredients: green vegetable, green fruit and some liquid. Just add the fruits or vegetables that you have on hand and blend until smooth. The options for the green vegetables are spinach, kale, lettuce, mint, collard greens, swiss chard, bok choy, cucumber, celery etc. For the fruits you can use apples, avocado, kiwi, bananas, pear, grapes, mango, pineapple etc. You can make it with milk or use dairy free options like coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, coconut water or plain water.
My cousin sister B, who lives in Australia makes this every day for her kids as a snack. It has become a regular practice for the kids. She is also happy as a single drink is packed with all the nutrition needed. This recipe and picture was shared by her. Thank you so much B. I tried it with my kids and it worked too. My kids love to have it without the milk. I also freeze it in popsicle molds to make green pops once in a while. Feel free to add or omit any ingredients according to what you have on hand or according to your taste.
Recipe For Making Green Smoothie
Preparation time: 5-10 minutes
Cooking time: NIL
- Kale – 1 cup (chopped)
- Green Apple – 1
- Banana – 1
- Cucumber – 1 cup (chopped)
- Milk – 2 cups (chilled)
- Honey – to taste
- Wash the apples, kale leaves and cucumber well since we are going to have it raw.
- Chop the fruits and leaves roughly.
- Take all the ingredients in a blender and make a smoothie. Adjust honey and other ingredients as per your taste preference.
- To make this smoothie a complete meal, add some kind of protein and healthy fats to the smoothie like almonds, peanut butter, roasted millet powder, oats etc.
