Horse-gram Chutney is a nutritious and flavorful South Indian chutney made with roasted horse gram, red chilies, coconut, and curry leaves. Packed with protein and fiber, this healthy chutney pairs perfectly with dal rice, curd rice, or plain steamed rice. Simple to prepare, it adds a deliciously earthy taste and a nutritional boost to your everyday meals.

Horsegram Chutney

Ingredients

  • Roasted horse gram - 1 cup
  • Red chilli - 2 nos
  • Grated Coconut - ½
  • Few curry leaves
  • Salt - as per taste

Method

  1. Pick the horsegram as you will find small stones in it. Roast it in a a kadai till u get a nice aroma in it.
  2. Roast the red chillies too.
  3. Roast few curry leaves.
  4. Mix all the ingredients in a mixer and grind to a smooth paste by adding water.

Serving Suggestion

  • This horsegram chutney can be had as a side with dal rice, curd rice etc.

I made the kulith chutney a little differently and it was delicious too.I took 2 cups of kulith and dry roasted it ,till it gave off an aroma,then dry roasted a few red chillies,curry leaves,8-10 pods of garlic and grond to coarse paste all the ingredients with one big onion..salt and tamarind too...it was delicious and keeps well for longer as no coconut.thank you
