Avalose Podi

Ingredients

  • Rice Flour - 2 cups
  • Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  • Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek Powder - a pinch
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp

Method

  1. Traditionally avalose podi is made by soaking rice for few hours, drying it and then making a coarse powder with it. To make life easier, we will use store bought rice flour.
  2. Mix the grated coconut, cumin powder, fenugreek powder and salt with the rice flour and let it rest for about 1 hour.
  3. Dry roast the mixture on a medium low flame for about half an hour till  the mixture becomes dry and turns light brown in colour.
  4. You may use the podi in its coarse form or grind it in a mixie to a smooth powder.
  5. Cool completely and store  in air tight containers for upto 6 months.

Serving Suggestion

  1. Serve the avalose podi mixed with sugar as a tea time snack or as a light meal.
  2. Avalose podi is typically served with some sugar and/or banana. This is a very common travel snack.

Avalose Podi mixed with banana and sugar and made into balls (Avalose Unda)
