Dhapate is a Maharashtrian breakfast dish, especially made in the Plateau areas. Dhapata means tapping and gets its name because of the way it is made. It is similar to Thalepeeth

Recipe For Dhapate

Ingredients

  • Jowar Flour – 2 cups
  • Wheat Flour (Kanik) – 1 cup
  • Gram Flour (Besan) – ½ cup
  • Thecha – 2-3 tbsp (crushed: 10-12 garlic, 1-1.5 inch ginger and 4-5 green chilli)
  • Any chopped leafy vegetables -  ½ cup (optional)
  • Fresh chopped coriander leaves – ½ cup (Chopped)
  • Salt – to taste
  • Red chilli powder -  1 tsp
  • Haldi (Turmeric) powder -  ¼ tsp
  • Ajwain – ¼ tsp
  • Sesame (til) seeds – 1 tsp
  • Dhana jeera (Coriander Cumin) powder – 1 tsp

Method

  1. Take all the above ingredients in a bowl. Mix everything and with help of water make dough.
  2. Keep tawa for heating.
  3. Take a moist cloth. Place a lump of ball size dough on it.
  4. Keep tapping it with fingers with help of little water.
  5. Pick up the cloth and place it upside down on oil seasoned tawa. 
  6. Sprinkle very little water on cloth so that cloth comes out easily from the Dhapate.
  7. Sprinkle oil and cover it to cook each side for 3-4 minutes.

Serving Suggestion

  • Serve the dhapate hot with dahi or theacha or pickle.
