Rose milk is a refreshing and aromatic drink popular throughout India. I remember during my childhood days, street hawkers selling rose milk and rose falooda in huge clay pots that keeps it chilled. These days Rose milk is becoming popular throughout Chennai. It feels so refreshing to drink some cold rose milk during these hot summer days. You can just milk some rose syrup with chilled milk and make the basic rose milk. But what I’ve shared here today is an enhanced version in which we blend the above ingredients with ice cubes. This makes the rose milk frothy and more tasty. Do try it out.

Recipe For Rose Milk

Preparation Time: 2 minutes
Cooking Time: Nil
Serves: 2

  • Chilled Milk - 2 cups
  • Rose syrup - 2 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Soaked basil seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes - 6-8 cubes
  • Rose petals - for garnish (optional)

  1. Soak basil seeds in ½ cup of water for about 15-20 minutes until they swell up. Drain excess water and set aside.
  2. Take the ice cubes in a blender. Add the chilled milk, rose syrup and sugar to this. Blend well for 1 minute.
  3. The rose milk becomes frothy. Pour this on to serving glasses.
  4. Add soaked basil seeds to this and mix well.

Serving Suggestion

  • Enjoy the cold rose milk immediately.
  • You may garnish with edible rose petals if you have.
