Red Velvet Cake is a traditional cake with a bright red colour and I have already shared the recipe. Red Velvet Cupcakes are something similar which I make. My kids absolutely love the colour and mild chocolatey taste of this cake. Isn't it eye appealing? I have also shared Red Velvet Cookies before.
These cupcakes are simple to make with fewer ingredients as compared to the cake. It can be made during weekends with children. So enjoy making these with your kids during their birthday or just for a weekend.

Method
For The Cake
- Mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl (all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt).
- Take the butter and sugar in another bowl. Use a hand blender and cream it together.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract. Continue beating until everything becomes creamy.
- Add the buttermilk and dry mix alternatively little at a time to this. Keep mixing as you add.
- Add red food colour as per the colour you desire. Mix everything once again.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degree F (180 degree C). Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
- Using an ice cream scoop, take the batter evenly in your prepared pan.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. It might take 3-5 minutes more or less depending on your oven.
- Switch off the oven and cool the cake completely before applying the frosting.
For the Frosting
- In a large bowl whip the cream cheese and butter first.
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and continue whipping until a thick frosting is ready. Add 1 tbsp of milk if needed.
- Take this frosting in a piping bag with any tip of choice and frost it. If you do not have piping bags, simply apply the frosting with a spatula.
- My kids topped the cupcakes with sprinkles and had fun.
